Parental Engagement in Early Learning
The Parental Engagement in Early Learning, implemented within the framework of Early Childhood Development and Education, is a community-based initiative designed to strengthen the active involvement of parents and caregivers in the early learning and development of young children. The program is grounded in the understanding that a child’s education is most effective when it is supported both at school and at home. Therefore, it seeks to bridge the gap between families and educational institutions by equipping parents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support their children’s learning in meaningful and practical ways. The initiative focuses on children aged 3 to 8 years as primary beneficiaries, while also targeting parents, caregivers, teachers, and the wider community as key stakeholders. The main objective of the program is to enhance children’s developmental outcomes by promoting positive parental engagement in early education. Specifically, it aims to raise awareness among parents about the importance of early childhood learning, provide them with practical strategies such as storytelling, play-based learning, and daily interaction techniques, and strengthen collaboration between parents and teachers. The initiative is implemented at the community and school levels, making it adaptable to both urban and rural settings. Key activities include parent training workshops, home-based learning demonstrations, awareness campaigns on child development and nutrition, and regular parent–teacher engagement sessions. As a result of these efforts, the program has contributed to increased parental participation in children’s education, improved school readiness, and enhanced cognitive, social, and emotional development among children. It has also strengthened relationships between families and schools, creating a more supportive learning environment. Throughout implementation, several lessons have been learned, including the importance of continuous support and follow-up, the effectiveness of simple and low-cost learning activities, and the need to consider local cultural contexts. Overall, the initiative demonstrates that empowering parents plays a critical role in improving early childhood education outcomes.
