Increasing access to early childhood development

Working in partnership with the Ministries of Education, Health, and Social Services, the Foundation develops and implements holistic Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes in rural primary schools. This work is done by renovating classrooms, establishing ECD centres, and delivering teacher training. Nhaka Foundation also provides basic health care, nutritional support, and a safe learning environment for children aged 0–8. Community engagement is central to Nhaka Foundations' approach, with parents involved through workshops and parenting meetings, and community leaders cultivated as active partners. Parents are regularly brought together through parenting meetings and workshops where they build knowledge and skills to support their children's early learning and development at home. Alongside this, the Foundation cultivates strong relationships with community leaders who hold influence over the wellbeing of community members, creating an open channel of communication that fosters trust and shared ownership of ECD goals. This grassroots approach ensures that programmes are not imposed from the outside but are embraced and championed by the communities themselves, generating the sustained buy-in necessary for long-term success.
