Community Based Early Learning - Western Cape

When children lack a quality education before the age of 5, they enter the school system without the tools required to learn. This disadvantage carries enormous consequences for their – and South Africa’s – future.

Closing the gap We aim to break the poverty cycle by closing the gap between ECD centres with resources and those without.

Nurturing a safe space We facilitate the training of teachers to practice positive affirmation and appropriate discipline.

Preparing the next generation The path to future success is forged in early childhood development. We want to give children in South Africa the best start.

Our goals as an ECD Centre To prepare young children to succeed in school and life

To equip young South African children with the skills they need to thrive at school and beyond

To provide a safe and nurturing environment for preschool-going South African children

To close the gap between the early learning experiences of children from low and high income South African households

Infrastructure We ensure the basic physical needs of the children are met in terms of safety, functioning toilets, a separate kitchen and dedicated classroom space.

Learning We empower teachers with the best-practice methods and content for early childhood development, providing the curriculum, books and equipment required for optimal learning outcomes.

Nutrition Together with the community, we plant sustainable vegetable gardens and ensure that school cooks are set up with the tools and ingredients they need to prepare wholesome, well-balanced meals.

Play We make sure that our centres are places of fun, creativity and imagination and that children are engaged with educational activities, games and toys so they can learn and grow through play.

Nurturing Our centres need to be safe harbours for the children in their care. We train teachers to model skills such as kindness and gratitude and to practise positive affirmation and appropriate discipline.
