Community-Based Learning, School Leadership and Management: Foundational Learning

Working in close partnership with Local Education Offices, this initiative advances Link Community Development’s commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) systems for the most marginalized and hard-to-reach children. Recognizing that access alone is not enough, we have championed inclusive, community-driven ECCD models that empower parents and caregivers as active agents of change.

At the community level, we supported the establishment of parent-led ECCD centers in underserved areas, ensuring that young children have safe, stimulating spaces to begin their learning journey. These centers have been equipped with essential literacy and numeracy materials to promote early language, pre-reading, and foundational math skills in line with national curriculum expectations. Beyond infrastructure and materials, we mobilized parents and school management committees to develop practical School Improvement Plans, strengthening local ownership, accountability, and sustainability.

To enhance quality, we trained ECCD caregivers on their professional roles and responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on child-centered pedagogy, inclusive practices, and safeguarding. This capacity-building approach ensures that children not only access ECCD services but also benefit from nurturing, protective environments that support holistic development. We have also strengthened transition mechanisms from ECCD centers to primary schools, fostering continuity in learning and improving school readiness outcomes.

At systems level, we continue to advocate with central government for the integration of coding and digital literacy within ECCD frameworks, preparing children for future learning pathways. In collaboration with the Directorate of Education Standards, we are now popularizing the ECCD Basic Requirements and Minimum Standards to ensure community schools progressively meet national benchmarks. Additionally, we are mapping service providers to create stronger referral and support networks, enabling coordinated delivery of health, protection, and education services for young children.
