Johannesburg School for Autism (JSA)
The school is about taking care of the learners with spectrum ASD, children with autism are the ones are considered most as compared to other children with other disabilities.
OBJECTIVES The main objective of the initiatives is to ensure that these spectra affected people become economical involved after they are out of school age. Autism people must be employable and be able to create jobs for themselves and other people, as per experience we know that some initiatives like AI and many other are invented by rich individuals who are on Autism Spectrum(ASD). We know that we have different levels of Autism those on the low support can be more fruitful toward the economy in large by coming up with different inversion and initiatives.
TARGET BENEFICIARIES The school is created to help people on Spectrum to access the education like anybody else and have contribution. most of the learners are segregated in the normal school and general education system. Curriculum taught at general educational system is not suitable or understandable to autism learners, so they need their kind of system.
GEOGRAPHIC SCOPE The school is situated at Braam Park in the very old hospital building, which also is not conducive for learning for children with Autism. Around the area is economical activities by that does not impact the performance of autism people because they are not involving them.
OUTCOMES After direct involvement with them, they become active and show interest in doing some of the jobs offered. The initiatives also come bit by bit.
LESSON LEARNED What we normal learned is after you involve them in the activities, they show interest and get totally engaged. Most critical initiatives are the ones which interest them most as compared to the normal ones. What is good about them is once involved they are in 100%.
