Community based organisation projects support

Starfish Greathearts Foundation is a registered Non-Profit Company (NPC) and Public Benefit Organisation committed to improving the lives of vulnerable children in South Africa.

2026 marks a significant milestone for Starfish Greathearts Foundation as we celebrate our 25th anniversary of serving vulnerable children and strengthening community-based care systems in South Africa. Over the past quarter century, Starfish has partnered with grassroots organisations to improve early childhood development, health access, education outcomes, and governance capacity in under-resourced communities.

Starfish aims to:

1. Improve the physical learning environments of selected ECD centres.
2. Equip classrooms with age-appropriate educational materials.
3. Enhance outdoor play areas to support physical and cognitive development.
4. Strengthen safety and compliance standards.
5. Promote holistic child wellbeing through integrated health support and nutrition.

With measurable impact: • Direct support to approximately 734 children • Improved school readiness indicators • Safer, more stimulating learning environments • Strengthened ECD centre operational standards • Enhanced child wellbeing and attendance rates

OUR WORK • Education Creating opportunities through early childhood development, literacy promotion, educational resources, and caregiver training. • Health & Wellness Providing healthcare access through Wellness Wagons, screenings, referrals, and preventative health services. • Nutrition Supporting healthy development through meals, food parcels, and food security initiatives. • Social Services Protecting vulnerable children through psychosocial support, referrals, family strengthening, and child protection interventions.

From corporate donors and philanthropic trusts to volunteers and community champions, every partner plays a role in creating opportunities for vulnerable children. Together, we are proving that sustainable change happens when organisations, communities, and individuals unite behind a shared purpose.

Starfish will continue to expand access to healthcare through the Wellness Wagon, strengthen maternal and child health services, support more Community-Based Organisations, improve food security initiatives, and create new opportunities for vulnerable children.
